External Defibrillation
(A.E.D.) Can be added to this program!
The Automated External Defibrillation (AED) supplement is a training
course designed to teach the use of an AED when responding to a patient
who is experiencing sudden cardiac arrest, prior to the arrival of EMS.
Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death, and a defibrillator
is the only definitive treatment for it. This course is designed
to meet national medical guidelines for A.E.D. use and is designed to
meet national and state requirements for AED training.
All Automated External Defibrillation courses from MEDIC FIRST AID use
video scenarios, in-class instructor demonstrations, hands-on student
practices, and feature:
AED can be added to our Basic 6.0, Pediatric 6.0, and CarePlus
6.0 programs. In this section you will learn:
- Sudden Cardiac Arrest Using an AED
- Bare, Prepare and Replace Pads
- Basic AED Operation
- Troubleshooting
- Other Considerations

MEDIC FIRST AID's Oxygen First Aid for Emergencies Supplement Version
6.0 is designed to give students the knowledge and skills necessary to
provide emergency oxygen to a suddenly ill or injured patient until more
advanced medical help can be obtained. Supplying emergency oxygen helps
meet the patient’s critical need for oxygen. When illness or injury
reduces the body’s ability to process oxygen, shock will soon occur,
unless the effects of the decreased amount of oxygen in the blood can
be reversed. Providing supplemental oxygen early in the emergency can
make a vital difference.
Emergency Oxygen Topics:
Benefits and Indications for Emergency Oxygen
Integrating the Use of Emergency Oxygen
Emergency Oxygen Delivery Systems
Oxygen Delivery for Breathing Patient
Oxygen Delivery for Non-breathing Patient
Safety Considerations for Emergency Oxygen Use

nationally recognized first aid/CPR or CPR only course.

What is a MEDIC FIRST AID Facilitator?
MEDIC FIRST AID Facilitators
MEDIC FIRST AID programs include an imbedded instructional design that
provides the instructor with a basic framework on how to present a class.
The instructor's role is essential, but not in the classic "wise lecturer"
tradition. It is more a role of "facilitation". The word "facilitate"
is Latin in origin (facilis), and means "to make easy or easier." We subscribe
to the notion of an instructor as helper, guide, encourager, consultant
and resource. We use the title "Facilitator" to collectively represent
all of our instructional levels.
There are three levels of Facilitators:
Instructors are qualified to conduct student classes in MEDIC FIRST
AID courses.
Instructor Trainers are qualified to conduct Instructor and student
classes.
Master Trainers are qualified to offer Instructor Trainer, Instructor
and student classes.
Facilitator training classes are available to become either an Instructor
or Instructor Trainer-level Facilitator. Experienced and skilled MEDIC
FIRST AID Instructor Trainers are encouraged to become Master Trainers.
There are two primary Facilitator categories:
Independent Facilitators provide MEDIC FIRST AID student training
to business, industry, government and/or the public on a fee-for-service
basis. Independent Trainers are also authorized to certify Instructors
who will work for them as an employee (full-time, part-time, or contracted)
at the instructor level.
Corporate Facilitators provide MEDIC FIRST AID training within
a corporation, branch of government (e.g., public safety, corrections,
forestry, etc.), or other organizational structure. Corporate Facilitators
conduct training as part of their occupational or organizational duties.
Becoming a MEDIC FIRST AID instructor or instructor trainer is easy.
Our family of programs include CPR/first aid for OSHA compliance
in the occupational setting, healthcare provider BLS/CPR, automated defibrillation,
emergency oxygen, bloodborne pathogens, and pediatric CPR/first aid. The
Facilitator training process allows you to purchase and teach any or all
of these programs.
There are three steps to fulfilling the training requirements for
becoming a MEDIC FIRST AID Instructor:
* Step 1: Provider Training
First attend and successfully complete student-level training for the
programs you wish to teach. This will provide you with an understanding
of the course content and the physical skills necessary to be able to
perform effective emergency care.
* Step 2: Facilitator Self-Study Training
Most of the technical and administrative knowledge required to function
productively as a MEDIC FIRST AID Facilitator is presented in the Facilitator
Self-Study Guide and Video. You can spend as much time as necessary gaining
an understanding of our instructional design and administrative issues.
Condensing this traditional classroom-based information into a single
self-paced resource reduces your classroom time.
* Step 3: Facilitator Training Class
You will attend and complete a classroom training session. This session
is designed to help new Facilitators become comfortable with the practical
use of the instructional elements found in MEDIC FIRST AID training programs
including Facilitator and student guides, Small Group Practices, Talk-Through
Scenarios, and Performance Evaluations. It also provides an opportunity
to ensure the skill competence of each Facilitator candidate.
